We had the second container delivered and this
one was tricky to get in place. We had to use the scoop and get some dirt
out of the way on the left corner there so the container could be pulled into
place.

was right after the container was slowly lowered down to the slab.
After the container got put partially in place
on the slab, we used a backhoe to pull it into place.

the first shipping container into place using a backhoe. Yes, a standard
backhoe is powerful enough to move 10,000 pounds with the scoop. I was
surprised they have that much power, but also thankful that I didn't have to
get a crane in there.

This same day, we got a couple of
more trees pushed over and the driveway formed. so that it circles around the
trees in the center. In the end, I am going to have a concrete driveway laid. I
ride motorcycles and know how dangerous gravel is to them.

As you can see, I inlaid 4x2x.25 steel tubing into the concrete so the shipping
containers could be welded to the foundation.
This was the original excavation of
the land. I decided to cut into the hill so that the back side of the container
can be against the ground for cooling in the summer. The excavated land in the
picture is lower than it looks. The back walls are 8 feet high.
Before I started building, I surveyed the
property. I found that surveying is relatively easy if you logically read the
deed and look for the landmarks it describes. I did proceed though and got a
surveyor out there for an official survey. I was only 8 inches off. That is the
marker I pounded into the ground from the official surveyor.
